My name is Bonnie Bilawsky and this is my story…
“On November 13, 2007 I had a routine mammogram, which revealed a questionable spot close to my chest wall. It required a biopsy that confirmed I had stage 1 breast cancer.
I had a lumpectomy, followed by a new type of radiation (at that time) called Mammosite. This required me to have radiation twice a day for 7 days. I was fortunate, as I would have never found it with a self-examination.
I thank my strong and aggressive Doctors who worked quickly and efficiently to get me through this tough time, but most importantly the support of my wonderful husband, Glenn, with my children and family that helped me stay strong.
Not long after my recovery, I received a call from a friend asking if I would be interested in contributing recipes to a cookbook sponsored by “The Smile Never Fades” Foundation. My initial interaction with “A Smile” was great, but the fun of meeting Bill Bastas, the founder of this wonderful organization, and the other contributors and survivors hasn’t waned! I am looking forward to the next adventure.
Editor’s note: Since the moment I met Bonnie and later Glenn, I realized they are great supporters of, not only our mission but of other charities as well. Truly these are ‘Spotlight’ people and we are so grateful to them.
